Day Three: Reykjavik

I woke up to the sounds of Clarissa softly murmuring to her computer (she was just Skyping Colby) and sounds of Sarah in the shower. After slowiy trying to summon the energy to sit up on my bed, I reached for my phone and checked the usual email and Facebook while Clarissa cooked us a breakfast consisting of eggs and toast. Suddenly, I heard a string of profanities and a clamor of pots and pans from the kitchen. I quickly realized that with our combined cooking skills, we managed to burn toast. In a toaster. After ridding the apartment of the smoke, we tried again and managed to make ourselves a decent breakfast without setting the entire building on fire.

With our bellies full of unburnt toast and eggs, the group started on a quest to find The Shoes. Upon entering our apartment in Iceland, Nick noticed an attractive pair of shoes sitting outside our neighbor's door. (Apparently, people in Iceland leave their shoes outside the apartment and trust people not to steal them). Here's a stalker photo Nick took of the shoes:

Yesterday, Nick found the specific brand of shoes that our neighbors owned and searched for a store that sold the specific brand. With directions from google maps, we started toward where the store SHOULD be...it was not there. For a while, we didn't think the brand actually existed, since we asked multiple people where these shoes could be found and the only responses were confused faces of natives who had never heard of such shoes. So we wandered aimlessly around Reykjavik.

It has awesome street art.

And Clarissa likes cats.

So then we gave up trying to find The Shoes in the shopping district and decided to go to the single mall in Iceland. Finally, we found the frickin store that sold The Shoes that Nick had been looking for all day. And then he decided that he didn't like The Shoes and that they looked too similar to the shoes he already had. However, hope was not lost. Nick found shoes that he did like. He is very happy with his purchase.

Clarissa also found a pretty hat.

We returned to the apartment rather early after making a short stop at a cute, little cafe to grab some hot chocolate. Tonight, we'll go out to eat a traditional Icelandic dinner. I'm excited.
