It has been a long arduous journey to get where we are now. I started planning this trip January of last year. I remember that my original plan had us going to over twenty different countries in the span of a month. I think it suffices to say that I was a mite bit idealistic. However, seven countries in the span of five weeks isn't all that bad, either, so kudos to myself.
I used airbnb.com to book the majority of our accommodation. It's a website in which people can rent out their homes to visitors. I emailed over a hundred people and ended up with five or six apartments. It can be hard to book places when many people don't regard teenagers with utmost respect. Many were worried that we would not be responsible enough to manage an apartment. I've never had to manage an apartment before, but I assume that we can handle with some degree of effectiveness. Our apartments that we booked are all unique in nature and beautifully decorated.
I used statravel.com to book our flights. I managed to get return flights to Iceland for under a thousand dollars. We will be flying with Delta and Icelandair.
I then had to plan smaller details, such as train rides and other methods of getting from point A to point B. I spent months on these plans and put in at least four to six hours every week.
I must say, my friends do really trust me. I ask for certain amounts of money to pay for trip things, and they give it to me with nary a question. I wonder if I can use that to my advantage . . . :)
We have less than a week until our plane takes off. It's still entirely unreal to me that we are going on this trip. I can't believe that my parents are letting me go or that everything has worked out so wonderfully well. Hopefully, all that good mojo continues for the duration of the trip. I'll definitely be counting on it.
